True Leader
What a weekend it was in sports! Unranked South Carolina beat third-ranked Georgia in two overtimes. The Houston Texans beat the Kansas City Chiefs. And our Houston Astros won a thriller in eleven innings on Sunday night. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see how they play TONIGHT! Of course, in any given sporting event, one’s reaction is either positive or negative depending on the team for which you are rooting. As a graduate of Texas A&M, I have not had much to cheer about this year!
Life can feel like a sporting event. There will be upsets, and there will be losses. We will experience game changing moments, and there will be days when we just don’t have our best stuff. However, every single day we must decide whether or not we are going to show up and “play.”
Yet, what I have noticed is that there are always lessons to be learned in both victory AND defeat. Regardless of weekend outcomes, both teams and individuals prepare for the next outing. Coaches and players do what they must to be ready for the next opportunity.
Paul reminds us,“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13-14).
How are we training for the life Christ has called us to? Who are we following?
I read a great quote last week, “A true leader is humble enough to admit their shortcomings and courageous enough to face them.”
Friends, I admit that I have not gotten it all right in my leadership here at Grace. I have certainly learned some hard lessons over the past five years and for that I am eternally grateful. But I also know that I am incredibly thankful for the Grace team. I pray that, together, we will claim the victory we have in Jesus Christ and that will compel us to courageously PRESS ON for the glory of the Lord.
After all, He is our True Leader!
I hope to see you this Sunday at Grace.
Peace,
Trey

Here’s this week’s fun fact:
