110%

“110%!” Depending on the reference, 110% may be good or bad. For instance, it would be good to have a 110% return on your investment—however, it would be bad if the bank charged you a 110% interest rate on your home mortgage. Or, it would be desirable to give 110% when playing sports—however, it would be less than desirable if you were the only one on the team giving 110%.

110% has a lot to do with perspective, passion, and perseverance.

Recently, I ran across a story about a voyaging ship that was wrecked during a storm at sea, and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert-like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the first man was lonely, and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God’s blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, “Why are you leaving your companion on the island?” The first man answered,“My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them.” “His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything.”

“You are mistaken!” the voice rebuked him. “He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings. The first man asked the voice,“Tell me, what did he pray for that I should owe him anything?”

The voice answered, “He prayed that all your prayers be answered.”

Friends, who will you pray for today? Together, may we live life with a “110% attitude” in our relationship with Jesus. When we do so, I am convinced our perspective, passion, and perseverance will all be enhanced.

Know you remain in my prayers and that I am thankful for you. I hope to see you Sunday.

Peace,

Trey

Children's Hunger Fund

We want our Preschoolers and Elementary Students to give big this holiday season, because we believe that even little kids can create BIG change!

Now through Dec. 2, we will participate in Project Coin Pak through Children's Hunger Fund. Kids have received their coin boxes in Sunday School but if your family needs extras, please take one from the welcome cart just outside The Backyard!

Every 25 cents added to the box provides 1 meal for a hungry child! On Dec. 2, bring your boxes full of coins (dollars too!), to us in The Backyard. We will collect them and place them in boxes to be sent back to the organization on Dec. 16 during the Habitat for Humanity Build!

Post-Harvey
Home Blessings

As they move back into their restored homes or relocate to different permanent homes, flooded families may request a team of Grace members to offer prayers of blessing. We have created a "walk-through" prayer pamphlet that the blessing team uses from the front door throughout the home to pray a hedge of protection and God's glorification in this journey.

You may request a home blessing by completing this form. Denise Phelps will contact you to schedule a blessing time and put together a team.

If you would like to be a part of a home blessing prayer team, you can volunteer by completing this form. It offers options for the days, times of day, and zip code where you might be a blessing to our flooded families. We will be in touch with you when an opportunity arises that meets with your availability.

We remain committed to walk alongside families still recovering from the aftermath of Harvey. Prayers continue to be lifted for continued healing, restoration, and rebuilding.

These are for anyone to take when they know someone who could be blessed by one of these meals. If you would like to know more about Manna from Grace, volunteering or receiving meals, please contact Becky Morris (bmorris@gpch.org; 713-267-5091).
