Livin' Loud

By definition, a chain reaction is “a sequence of reactions where a reactive product or by-product causes additional reactions to take place.”

Not a day goes by in our lives when we are without opportunities to be agents of change. Both our words and actions can cause a chain reaction. The question is, what additional reactions are we causing? Will who we are and how we live result in construction or destruction?

In just a few weeks, Grace Presbyterian Church will have an opportunity to be reactive products for the Kingdom. We will once again host an unforgettable Vacation Bible School, June 11-14. We already have registered 468 kids (75% of whom are not members of Grace), 128 teens, and 79 adults—that is 675 total people, thus far. WOW!

This year’s theme is: Livin’ Loud Lab—where God’s love ignites a chain reaction that changes the world. Over the course of the week, we will explore how God’s love sets off chain reactions such as: God loves me, so He sent Jesus. Jesus loves me, so He gave His life for me. Jesus is alive, so I trust in Him. Jesus lives in me, so I can live loud. It is going to be a wonderful week!

I tell you all of this because I think VBS offers many of us an opportunity to be used by Jesus to start a chain reaction. We need you to volunteer (we currently need an additional 60 teen volunteers and 75 adult crew leaders). A crew leader is a volunteer who leads a group of 7-10 kids through all the VBS activities each day. We also need donations—you can check out our donation list at GPCH.org/vbs. Finally, we need to join together in prayer—igniting a chain reaction of prayer over VBS and for each and every participant and volunteer to have a transformational encounter with Jesus.

I invite you to contact Traci Baudin at tbaudin@gpch.org if you have questions or if you are ready to be an agent of change by volunteering. Together, we will continue livin’ loud to make Jesus visible.

In advance, thank you for your commitment.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Peace,

Trey

When Helping Hurts Seminar

Massey-Tucker Fellowship Hall A
(Closest to the Massey-Tucker Lobby & Elevators)

You are invited to explore a different framework for thinking about poverty and its alleviation. Rather than simply defining it as a lack of material things, we will consider the roots of the issues: broken relationships with God, self, others, and the rest of creation. We will unpack the basic principles of poverty alleviation in an accessible way. We will continue to meet for the next four consecutive Sundays, May 27-June 17, followed by a dinner on Wednesday, June 20. The class will meet at 10:15 a.m. in the Massey-Tucker Hall, 3rd floor Conference room. Books will be provided. For more information, contact Chris French (cfrench@gpch.org; 713-267-5039).

Help collect food and other necessity items for WHAM (West Houston Assistance Ministry). Collection bins will be located inside the Chapel and Sanctuary entrances, and in the Massey-Tucker Hall Lobby. Focus items will be peanut butter and jelly, canned pasta, canned fruit, soups, and crackers.
