Evite

How do invitations influence your emotions? That may sound like a crazy question, but invitations undoubtedly impact each of us differently. For some, receiving an invitation creates stress at the thought of fitting another event into an already busy schedule. Then there are the decisions about what to bring or the gift that must be purchased. However, for others, receiving an invitation is energizing because we feel wanted and included. Upon receipt of the invitation, thoughts immediately turn to what to wear and how much fun it will be, and the event quickly makes it to the calendar. Regardless of how invitations stir your emotions, one thing is certain - with every invitation comes a responsibility to respond.

Consider an EVITE invitation. You excitingly open the invitation and after reading the details you are prompted to RSVP. You have three options: YES - MAYBE - NO. Three options which, depending on the one you click, will impact your future plans. I have always wondered why there isn’t a fourth option: WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? Imagine what emotions that would stir - if we were invited to be part of something that we knew ahead of time would benefit us! Crazy to consider but also fun to ponder.

Well, I have an invitation for you. Here are the details:

Sunday, March 31 | Student Missions Sunday

9:30 a.m. - 12:30p.m. - Silent Auction
10 a.m. - One worship service in Sanctuary
11:15 a.m. - 12:15p.m. - Lunch in Massey-Tucker Fellowship Hall
3-7 p.m. - Sporting Clay Tournament, Family Activities, and Dinner
(Westside Sporting Grounds)

As you can see, this is going to be a great Sunday with multiple opportunities for us to participate in blessing others as they prepare to bless even more people. Did you catch that? When we choose to give of ourselves, we, in turn, are coming alongside of others to do the same. That’s what’s in it for us: the joy of knowing that, together, we are living out our Bless Strategy of blessing others across the street and around the world.

Sounds to me like March 31 should be a YES!

How will you respond?

Peace,

Trey

McKechnie Scholarships

The Grace Presbyterian Church Endowment Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the fourth year of scholarship awards from the Grace Church’s endowment funds. In 2018, the board awarded scholarships to four students attending Grace School and 25 students attending 14 different US colleges and universities. The funds for these scholarships come from the General Endowment Fund for Grace Church and the David G. McKechnie Scholarship Fund. The scholarships are funded from the income produced by these two Endowment Funds, so funds available are totally dependent on the income produced from the two fund balances. The application for 2019 scholarships is available HERE.

If you want to make a gift to the Grace Church General Endowment Fund to assist in building the capacity of the endowment to fund these scholarships and other needs of Grace Church outside of the annual operating budget, you may contact Hardie Morgan at the church office. The McKechnie Scholarship Fund is closed to new gifts, so all new gifts will need to be made to the General Endowment Fund.

The Wild West in the Back Yard – New Dubina

Wednesday, April 3
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

It is a rite of passage for many Texans to retire to a home on the range. The cost of the tour and lunch is $15. Seating is limited. For more information, contact Becky Morris (bmorris@gpch.org; 713-267-5091).

Become a Mentor & Impact a Life of a Middle School Student Forever!

Beginning April 30, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Over the past 7 years, Grace Presbyterian Church has partnered with Paul Revere Middle School to provide adults the opportunity to mentor students. Mentoring, at its core, guarantees students that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with daily challenges, and reminds each student that they matter.  Research confirms that mentoring has a powerful positive effect on students personally, academically, and on their future dreams.

This Sunday in worship, you will get to hear from a mentor and learn more about how to become a mentor.  Look for one of the current mentors wearing a red shirt or make your way to the mentor information table.  For more information or to speak to a member of the leadership team, please ckick HERE.
