Livin' Loud

What a week it was around Grace last week! Once again, Grace Presbyterian Church raised the bar when it comes to Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme was Livin’ Loud Lab... where God’s love ignites a chain reaction that changes the world!More than 550 kids, plus 180 teens and 160 adults, had an awesome week of mad science and lots of fun while learning about God’s great love for them. Among the rising 5th and 6th graders in Intersect, there were 16 kids who put their trust in Jesus for the very first time!

There was also an external component to VBS. Kids in Intersect packed 24,624 meals with Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) that will go all over the world to help those in need. The kids brought in over 500 food items (728 pounds) for the West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) food pantry that will feed 146 families this summer. Additionally, there was a Change for Change competition to raise money for the Grace Girls’ High School in Kenya. Together the kids raised $3,149, which will cover tuition, room, and board for 6 girls to go to school. Grace’s Bless Strategy Team contributed another $400 to make it 7 girls! Praise the Lord!

I am so thankful for the leadership, devotion and preparation displayed last week by our Children’s Ministries team and the nearly 300 volunteers. During a week when the theme was “Livin’ Loud”—they certainly were, and it was so fun to witness (check out these video highlights from the week).

So now what? Do we just wait around until next June for God’s love to ignite a chain reaction that changes the world? Do we take an attitude that VBS is the only opportunity we have for “Livin’ Loud”? Do we just sit back and hope someone else will live out loud? I certainly hope not because that would be completely counter to who we are.

Here at Grace we are propelled by a vision of LIVING TO MAKE JESUS VISIBLE. I am convinced that when we do so, God will continue to ignite chain reactions. In turn, we will find ourselves energized by the stories He generates through His transformational power in our lives and the lives of those with whom we share His love.

Therefore, I want to encourage you to continue to seek opportunities every day when you can LIVE LOUD for Jesus – those opportunities where you can serve others or when you can remind a friend who is hurting that God’s love has unfathomable healing power. Expect the unexpected—trust the Lord to do the extraordinary in the midst of the ordinary.

Friends, it may be summer—but there is never a time to take a vacation from Livin’ Loud!

God is up to some big things here at Grace, and I remain very optimistic about our future. In fact, I am convinced The Future is Bright!

Peace,

Trey
