Level Up
Wow, what a week it has been at Grace Presbyterian Church! In the past four days, there have been more than 950 people on our campus for Vacation Bible School. Of those, 600 of them were children who came to have fun, be valued, and be equipped to “play the game” of life.
A few more interesting statistics about this week:
- There were kids who attended our VBS from as far away as California.
- Members of the Grace family donated more than 1,900 bottles of water.
- There were more than 50 Bibles given to kids who did not have one prior to coming to our VBS with money raised in our Change 4 Change challenge.
- Our Intersect Crews of rising fifth and sixth graders packed more than 6,000 lunches for Kids' Meals Houston, an organization that packs and delivers meals to Houston's preschoolers who might not get a meal otherwise.
- Families donated more than 500 food items to WHAM to help with the additional needs that summer creates.
Needless to say, God has been active around Grace this week.
Special thanks to all of the Children’s Ministries staff led by the amazing Traci Baudin, the many volunteers, our A/V staff and all those who prayed for us this week. It brought my heart great joy to see the Grace family give of their time and energy to make Jesus visible to all of the children this week. What an amazing team we have here at Grace — I am so thankful for each of them.
Although VBS 2019 has come and gone, each of us MUST continue to “play the game” of life.
Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Don’t live the way the world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what He wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 NIrV) This was the memory verse that covered VBS this week.
If there is one thing most of us wrestle with on a daily basis, it is BALANCE. We are busy—or at least we convince ourselves we are busy. We have kids to drop off and pick up, groceries to buy, meetings to attend or lead, social engagements to make, gyms to frequent, hobbies to engage, families to love — and then, for the few remaining hours — we sleep.
We make choices each day about how we will live, but to truly follow Jesus, we must make choices that help us become more like Him. That’s how we LEVEL UP our faith. We embrace the truth that without the Lord as the priority of our lives, we will continue to feel restless and tired. We ponder questions such as: Who am I going to be in the game of life? Who will direct my paths? Who will I turn to in the midst of challenges? Am I ready to LEVEL UP?
As one author put it, “Your best days are on the other side of your obedience” (Rick Warren).
I hope you are having a great week, and I hope to see you tonight at the Block Party to celebrate the end of VBS 2019. As always, I hope to see you Sunday, too.
Peace, Trey

VBS Thank You!
Children’s Ministries thanks EVERYONE who volunteered for and donated to VBS this year! We served more than 600 children and more than 350 adult and teen volunteers over the course of our four days. Because of your generosity to our Amazon Wish List, we were able to provide gluten-free and nut-free snacks to everyone, so our sweet kids with allergies were able to stay with their crews during Snacks and Small Groups. Our Games, Crafts, Music & Movement rotations encouraged everyone to flex their muscles and their creativity. And the actors in both Preschool and Backyard Bible Adventure entertained everyone with their enthusiastic interpretations of the stories of Daniel and his three friends.
It is a gift that we get to collaborate with so many talented people at Grace and in the community for a year as we plan every aspect of VBS. Thank you for making it possible! Thank you for helping us all LEVEL UP!
