Summertime

Over the past several weeks I have been hooked on an old song by Kenny Chesney called Summertime. Admittedly, there is nothing in the song that is overtly Christian, and you won’t ever hear the song on KSBJ, but the tune just makes me smile. Interestingly enough, turning up the volume in my car makes it sound even better.

Summertime provides opportunities for memories to be made, possibilities for things to be checked off of your “bucket list” and, if you are fortunate, time to rest and relax. But the summer is also time for reflection and anticipation, reflecting on what we have done and anticipating what is to come.

As we continue our summer sermon series, The Future is Bright, I am overjoyed by all of the things we have to celebrate at Grace:

  • This summer, the Inspire Young Moms Bible study brings almost 60 women together each week for Bible study, prayer, and small group discussion.

  • As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey approaches, Grace continues to support those impacted as they transition post-Harvey. A dedicated Disaster Relief Fund was established from your contributions as well as those from churches all over the country to assist our Grace members and friends. Please mark your calendar to join us for a Harvey Remembrance worship service on Sunday, August 26 and for a Grace family lunch afterward.

  • The Facilities Improvement Team (FIT) continues to meet regularly this summer preparing to share exciting news with the congregation on September 9. The plans will better align our campus environment with our mission of equipping disciples to make Jesus visible across the street and around the world.

  • Looking ahead this fall, plans are underway to revitalize the Men’s Ministries by creating and cultivating environments where the Men of Grace can be in fellowship together, strengthen their faith, and grow in a better understanding of how to live to make Jesus visible in our daily lives.

  • The annual Dolores and Alan Wood Memorial Golf Tournament will be on Monday, November 5. This year’s tournament will benefit two mission partners:

    • Freedom Place, a Christ-centered care and recovery center in Houston for underage victims of domestic child sex-trafficking.

    • Grace Girls High School in Kenya, an amazing school built to spread the Gospel and a safe place for young girls to be educated to make a difference.

  • Finally, as we look toward Advent and Christmas, you will want to mark your calendars to join us on Sunday, December 16 for our 3rd annual Christmas 4 the City. We will be in partnership again with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for Houston families.

I recently saw a picture of a sign that provided a great reminder: “If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”

Friends, God is up to some amazing things in and through Grace. I am grateful for you and for the opportunity to partner with you on God’s mission. May we have the courage and faith to do some things we have never done to receive things we have never had!

Peace,

Trey
