Summer Lovin'
"Summer time, summer time, sum, sum, summer time!"
Do you remember that song? It was The Jamies' one and only hit, but it broke the Top 40 twice in 1958 and again in 1962. It is an infectious ditty that I have never forgotten. Well, it is mid-July, and we are smack dab in the middle of summer! We can feel the heat; we can see it on the roads around Houston (less traffic!); and our conversations often begin with something like, “Where are you going on vacation or have you already gone?”. It’s amazing to observe people’s Joy meters accelerate with the arrival of summer.
Well, I want to share something that is bringing me JOY this summer: the energy I am witnessing around our Student Ministries. Although we are in the midst of transition with our staff this summer, it has been refreshing to see so many parents/volunteers step up and stand in the gap.
Case in point: in lieu of Sunday School, for the next four weeks of summer, there will be “Summer Lovin'” for all middle school and high school students. They will gather together for food, music, fun and mission. Each week they will be serving together and making Jesus visible for various organizations. It's an incredible opportunity to create and cultivate environments where our students and leaders can bless others across the street while at the same time inviting friends to join in the fun! ONE combined hour for students to be on mission and in community, loving God through loving others!
Here is where we need your help:
- We need at least 4 adults to come alongside the students each week. If you and/or your spouse would like to join us, please let us know which date/s.
- PLEASE spread the word and the excitement. You can contact Dorothy Hobbs
at dhobbs@gpch.org or Amy French at texasfrench@scbglobal.net with questions.
- Please encourage YOUR KIDS to attend and to bring their friends.
Friends, BUT GOD… has a plan.
Join me in continuing to pray for our students/leaders.
And wherever your travels take you this summer, remember to love one another.
Peace, Trey

All-Adult Sunday School with Michelle Travis
August 4, 10:15 a.m.
Massey-Tucker Fellowship Hall
PONDER is a verb that means to revolve in one's mind, to weigh, to consider, to discuss, to converse. Michelle Travis, founder & executive director of Pondering Ministries, will be encouraging and equipping us to consider scripture in a new, old-fashioned way: through discussion, the use of Bible study tools, and prayer. This simple, yet rich way of studying the word of God is meant to spark an ongoing conversation between you, God, and others for the purpose of abiding in and staying connected to Jesus. For more information, contact Chris French (cfrench@gpch.org; 713-267-5039).
