1. New Sunday Morning "Equipping Hour"
Sunday, February 28, 11:00 a.m.-Noon, the Sanctuary
Beginning this week, the Equipping Hour time is shifting ten minutes ahead and will be 11 a.m.-Noon. This affords us a little more time for fellowship following worship and gives you plenty of time to get to your next class!
Nursery & Preschool Children Update for The Treehouse
Our preschoolers continue to enjoy childcare each Sunday morning. We have an amazing staff who practice all of our safety protocols as they share our weekly video message, play, and complete coloring/craft activities with them. If you attend The Backyard with your elementary child, you CAN take your preschoolers with you. If you prefer to attend any of the adult classes during the Equipping Hour, your preschoolers may remain in childcare. Registration is required, and the screening app questionnaire must be completed. Register HERE.
For Elementary Children: We invite you to meet us in The Backyard!
As we continue to expand our programming, we can't wait to welcome families and elementary school kids to The Backyard! Parents and grandparents are invited to attend with their children, but elementary students may attend on their own, after being checked in by their grown-ups. We will use the same health screening app that we have used since September in our childcare rooms. To ensure everyone's safety, we have to cap registration at 33, and everyone who attends MUST register in advance HERE. For more information, contact Lisa Ann Henkel.
Adults Choose from Two New Epic Classes
Grace’s mission is “Making disciples by equipping people to make Jesus visible in their daily lives.” Last year, the Grace session approved several strategic initiatives to advance this mission and to help transition Grace into a church that makes disciples who make disciples.
One of these initiatives is to create a discipleship curriculum to be offered Sunday mornings that helps train our people for a life of being an apprentice of Jesus. This discipleship curriculum is called EPIC which stands for Equipping People in Community. Ultimately, EPIC will consist of a set of core classes centered on the Bible, Beliefs and Practices. The EPIC program will move away from lecture style teaching towards a more participative, interactive learning environment.
1. Get a Grip on the Bible - This class is an overview of the narrative arc of the Bible. If you have never studied the Bible or if you have done so for years but have never pieced your time in the Word into the larger picture of God's pursuit and rescue for the lost and the hurting, then we invite you to join us in a 12-week journey grasping hold of the events and the people God has impacted, chosen, rescued, and redeemed. This is "the greatest story ever told!" This course will be team taught by Denise Phelps and Jim Leeland. Come learn and then tell of its wonders!
How can I sign up?
Because this is a pilot program and because we want to create a more participatory learning environment, the class size will be limited and requires registration in advance. There are still plenty of spaces available. Two books are included in the cost of $20. You may register HERE.
2. When Helping Hurts - When Helping Hurts offers a different framework for thinking about poverty and its alleviation. Rather than simply defining it as a lack of material things, we will explore the roots of the issues: broken relationships with God, self, others, and the rest of creation. We will unpack the basic principles of poverty alleviation in an accessible way. This six-week course will be team taught by Chris French, Nancy Bailey, and Bert Crump. For more information, contact Chris French.
