That Time of Year
It is that time of year — time to write thank you notes. My parents raised me to always write a thank you note for every gift I received. Whether it was from a relative I never saw or a friend down the street, it didn’t matter. If I received a gift, I was to write a thank you note. Now I must admit, that was not always what I wanted to do, particularly as a young boy. And admittedly, some of my thank you notes reflected my lack of enthusiasm:
“Dear Nana, Thank you for the neat pair of socks. Love, Trey.”
“Dear Jim, I really love the compass you gave me for Christmas. Love, Trey.”
However, to this day, I am grateful for the discipline of writing thank you notes that my parents instilled in me. The last time I checked, we all appreciate hearing a word of thanks.
Therefore, my message this week is one of THANKS. Thank you for your continued faithfulness. Thank you for your patience throughout the construction process. Thank you for your prayers for me and the staff. Thank you for your prayers for Grace. Thank you for your words of encouragement and appreciation for how our campus is taking shape. Thank you for volunteering on Sunday during GKM and at Christmas for the City. My list is endless!
This time of year also invites us to remember the most precious gift we have ever been given. Of course, it is the gift of life we have in Jesus Christ. However, unlike a pair of “neat socks” or a plastic compass, Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving. He is the One who gives sight to the blind. He is the One who heals the broken hearted. He is the One that loves the unlovable. He is the One who gave His life in order that we might have life eternal.
I am reminded of the story of one Christmas morning when a little girl named Lisa unwrapped a beautiful golden-haired doll her grandmother had given her. “It’s such a pretty doll,” Lisa squealed excitedly, hugging her new toy. “Oh, thank you, Grandma!"
Lisa played with her new doll throughout the day. But as bedtime approached, she put it down and sought out one of her old dolls. Its hair had come off, its nose was broken, one eye was gone, and an arm and leg were torn. But Lisa cradled the tattered old doll in her arms. “Well, well,” smiled Grandma. “It looks as though you like that old doll the best.” Lisa said, “No Grandma, I like the beautiful new doll you gave me, but I love this old doll the most, because if I didn’t love her no one else would.”
Friends, each of us is tattered in various ways yet God loved us when no one else would. What a gift!
How will you say “thank you” to the Lord today?
I hope to see you Sunday.
Peace,
Trey
P.S. Thank you, in advance, for your year-end giving to Grace. It will make a difference!

Thank You
From Children's Ministries
The entire Children's Ministries team thanks everyone for their participation in and support of GKM and the Kids' Meals projects for Christmas for the City! Our GKM performers began rehearsing for the service back in October and were AMAZING on Sunday! Also in October, our Sunday school small groups began decorating lunch bags for the 7,000 meals we packed this weekend! Then we had preschoolers, teens and adults show up and show off for God by donating toys, wrapping those toys, and making more than 500 Christmas ornaments to give to Kids' Meals families. Check out all the photos on our Facebook pages: www.facebook.com/gpchelementary/ and https://www.facebook.com/gpchpreschool/.
