Spiritual Tools to Dig Deeper

Use the guide below to walk you through a time of prayer, Scripture reading, reflection, and worship.

Begin your time of prayer by reading these words:

"Then run, faithful souls, happy and tireless, keep up with your beloved who marches with giant strides from one end of heaven to the other. Nothing is hidden from His eyes. He walks alike over the smallest blades of grass, the tallest cedars, grains of sand or rocky mountains. Wherever you go He has gone before. Only follow Him and you will find Him everywhere." — The Sacrament of the Present Moment by Jean-Pierre De Caussade

Offer a prayer to God in your own words.

Daily Scripture Reading

Key Verse to Ponder: John 12:19
"So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the        whole world has gone after him!”
Gospel: John 12:1-19
Old Testament: Isaiah 42:1-9, Psalm 36:5-11
New Testament: Hebrews 9:11-15

Readings for Reflection

“Thus, I will see when I am willing to be seen. I will receive new eyes that can see the mysterious of God’s own life when I allow God to see me, all of me, even those parts that I myself do not want to see. O Lord, see me and let me see.” — The Road to Daybreak by Henri J.M. Nouwen

“The hardest thing about really seeing and really hearing is when you really have to do something about what you have seen and heard.” — by Frederick Buechner

“Prayer is a kind of corrective lens that does away with the distorted view of reality that, for some mysterious reason, seems to be my normal vision, and enables me to see what is as it really is.” — Silence on Fire by William H. Shannon

Listen and Reflect

Try to be still and hear what God is saying to you through your reading, reflection on the quotes above. Perhaps write down what you hear and trust God is speaking to you.

Prayer: for the World, for the Church, for Others, for Myself

Pray as you feel led based on your reflections. Remember that Clement of Alexandria once said that prayer is “simply keeping company with God.”

Song

Use the song as an expression of worship and praise.  May this song add a beautiful dimension to your daily rhythm with God.  Play the recorded song by Ryan Bell
and sing along aloud or in your heart.

Open the Eyes of My Heart
by Paul Baloche

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

[Chorus]
To see you high and lifted up
Shining in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

[Chorus]

Holy, holy, holy
Holy, holy, holy
Holy, holy, holy
I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

[Chorus]

Closing Prayer

O God, guide me to see and go after Jesus this Holy Week to see the depth of Your love demonstrated in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. May I “...realize that I want to be seen by you, to dwell under your caring gaze, and to grow strong and gentle in your sight. Lord, let me see what you see - the love of God and the suffering of people - so that my eyes may become more and more like yours, eyes that can heal wounded hearts.”
The Road to Daybreak by Henri Nouwen
